The Team: What we do

The Specialist Mental Health Services training unit is part of the Divisional Support team, which coordinates the delivery of mandatory and other courses delivered under the SMHS Workforce Delivery Framework.

The Specialist Mental Health Services (SMHS) provided by the Canterbury District Health Board are at the leading edge of mental health service delivery. Our services are provided by a number of outpatient, inpatient, community-based and mobile services throughout Canterbury. We offer a wide range of specialty areas, including: Adult Community; Adult Acute; Rehabilitation; Child, Adolescent and Family; Forensic; Alcohol and Drug; Intellectually Disabled Persons' Health, and more.

The Role: Where you fit in

Reporting to the Nurse Consultant, Workforce Development at the Specialist Mental Health Services Training Unit based on site at Hillmorton Hospital, you will work from a holistic approach to our nursing care, which values least restrictive practice and other evidence based nursing best practice.

You will demonstrate your ability to contribute to the professional development of staff throughout Specialist Mental Health Services. This position has responsibility for the SMHS Talking Therapies portfolio, and you will come with a strong clinical background in this area.

You will be someone who has a passion for adult education, has some exposure in this area such as, but not limited to: preceptorship, in-services or class-room based teaching experience and a desire to develop this role and your own capability to meet the needs of the service

You will be clinically sound, understand the value of partnership with consumers and all that influence positive outcomes for them and their families, displaying integrity, humility and respect to your practice at all times

Your excellent interpersonal skills and your ability to adjust to a variety of adult learning styles will be imperative to this role.

This is a 0.5 FTE, permanent position.
