The Team: What we do

Our Specialist Mental Health Services are provided by a number of outpatient, inpatient, community-based and mobile services throughout Canterbury. Our Physiotherapy team work within a range of clinical areas between Inpatient and Outpatient services based at Hillmorton Hospital. Our treatment often includes support with exercise and lifestyle strategies, and referral on to appropriate services in the wider community or within the Canterbury DHB.

This is a permanent, full time opportunity for a registered physiotherapist to join our team. You'll be working across Monday to Friday, with negotiable start and finish times. Although this position is based at Hillmorton, we also offer services at The Princess Margaret Hospital and the successful applicant may also be required to work at this site.

The Role: Where you fit in

In this role, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Planning and providing physiotherapy assessment and treatment in partnership with Specialist Mental Health Service consumers who have mobility and functional difficulties with their physical and mental health
  • Work collaboratively with the consumer, their family/whanau, and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide quality patient-centred care

Your skills will include the following:

  • Clinical experience with acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions and falls management
  • Knowledge of neurological and respiratory conditions
  • The ability to work collaboratively and positively with consumers, whanau, and colleagues
  • Experience with education and running group interventions is an advantage
  • Registration with the New Zealand Physiotherapy Board with current Annual Practising Certificate is essential

Experience working within mental health is not essential. Orientation, ongoing training, supervision, and support for working within SMHS will be provided for the successful applicant.
